NATIONAL JUNIOR PROSPECTS - THE HISTORY BEHIND THE FRANK BLACK CUP MEMORIAL TROPHY

FRANK BLACK CUP MEMORIAL TROPHY

September 7th, 2018

As the National Junior Prospects enters into it's ninth consecutive season, today we celebrate the naming of the Frank Black Cup which goes to the winner of each age group at the end of the season tournament. With a long tradition in it's wake, there has been a total of 20 teams who have hoisted the cup at the end of the season celebrating their victory. Along with the Frank Black Cup Tournament, National Junior Prospects also run another tournament during the final showcase known as the NJP tournament series.  The two tournaments interact with each other and hosts two seperate championships.  This creates a lot of competition, fun, and excitement for all of the players, coaches, and parents.

On the 33rd anniversary of his tragic and sudden death, it is an honor to have this trophy represent the Natonal Junior Prospects Hockey program.

Just in case you missed "September 7th in hockey history" , below are the accomplishments and dedication that made up the great man this trophy represents.

FRANK BLACK

September 7th, 1985 - Frank Black, father to Bob Black, NJP Director, tragically dies in a skydiving accident at Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania. Frank dedicated his life to hockey and his family. The following are some of the attributes of Frank's dedication to hockey:

- AHAUS (now USA Hockey) Mid Am District Director late 70's through 1985

- Pittsburgh Penguins season ticket holder since their inception

- Co founder and registered ice hockey referee of the Western Pennsylvania Hockey Officials Association (WPHOA).

- Co founder of Ice Hockey becoming a sport of the Keystone State Games in Pennsyvania

- Co founder of the Tri State Area Hockey Association (TAHA)

- Amateur Ice hockey Coach

- Fantastic father, role model, leader, and innovator

The National Junior Prospects Staff is honored to have the top teams in each age group compete for the FRANK BLACK CUP each year since 2010.

- Bob Black, NJP Director

AUGUST 30TH, 2018 -

The United States of America was built on one constant concept passed down from generation to generation from the beginning of a great nation.

HARD WORK!

Always the difference of producing results and adding to self respect, pride, and gratification.

This coming Monday, September 2nd gives hard working people a day off with their families and friends to enjoy the fruits of their hard work and labor.

HAPPY LABOR DAY to all and have a safe and relaxing weekend.

NATIONAL JUNIOR PROSPECTS 15'-16' ALUMNI MATEJ PEKAR (JIMMY JOHNS HOCKEY) DRAFTED BY THE BUFFALO SABRES IN THE 2018 NHL DRAFT - 4TH ROUND - 94TH OVERALL

JIMMY JOHNS HOCKEY

August 14th, 2018 -

Metaj Pekar has been drafted in the 2018 NHL Draft in the fourth round - 94th overall. Metaj played in the National Junior Prospects program in the u16 division during the 2015-2016 season for Jimmy Johns Hockey.

During the 2015-2016 season, Metaj had 37 goals and 17 assists in 20 games. He later moved on to the T1EHL and then the USHL Muskegon Lumberjacks last season.  For the 2018-2019 Season, Metaj will attend the NCAA Division 1 Miami of Ohio University as part of his continued development process toward the NHL. Later this season, the National Junior Prospects teams will get a chance to see Metaj play at Miami of Ohio during the NJP showcase December 27th - December 30th, 2018.

Read Metaj's draft article (copy and paste the link) :   https://www.nhl.com/sabres/news/buffalo-sabres-matej-pekar-2018-nhl-draft/c-299228028

Jimmy Johns Hockey, formerly the Redford Kings, has been part of the National Junior Prospects for six years. Roman and Tomas Andrys are two coaches that passionately develop hockey players on and off the ice.

How do they do it?

The old fashion way: Hard work, no excuses, keen hockey sense, excessive hockey skill development, and a deep sense of commitment from their players.  It is exciting for the National Junior Prospects to have the teams such as the Jimmy Johns Hockey Club as part of the showcase program.

The NATIONAL JUNIOR PROSPECTS WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE METAJ ON HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND WISH HIM THE BEST FOR A CONTINUED SUCCESSFUL ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL HOCKEY CAREER!!!
